Topographic and geomorphic modeling

Fluvial geomorphology provides an essential framework for river modeling and engineering.  The detection of trends in river evolution and response to change can be accomplished with the use of topographic and bathymetric modeling.  We have used detailed topographic analysis to evaluate changes to river reaches.

A good example of our expertise is our analysis of topographic change due to the failure of the Gillespie Dam on the Gila River in Arizona.  By preparing detailed digital maps of the pre- and post-dam topography of the Gila River below Gillespie Dam, we were able evaluate changes in channel capacity and flood risk.  Our analysis was used by Dr. Will Graf to evaluate change is channel stability and long-term geomorphic response.

We are very familiar with topographic mapping technology and accuracy standards.  We have conducted several projects using aerial LIDAR (light detection and ranging), conventional aerial mapping, and ground survey.  We have conducted check surveys for verification of map accuracy.   We can help in the development of specifications for topographic surveys, including map accuracy, feature compilation requirements, and verifications surveys.
